  • a Monodrama for Voice and String Quartet (2010)

I wanted to take a text with traces of absurdity but play it straight with the setting. The humor comes from the piece not knowing it's humorous, but it is not completely without pathos either. When I felt the music going towards cliche I let it go, I think this resulted in a few good tunes. The piece is a suite from a nonexistent opera, compressed into 6 minutes and scored for 5 performers.

    1. When did I become resistible?
    Influenza! White noise!

My seduction is comedy but my comedy is something else.
My heart is a tour bus taking a flaming plunge off the cliff of your love.

When did I become the scenery?
    Bric-a-brac-a! Velvet Elvis! Waterbed!

    2. Poor with my money and my heart.

Some girls/boys give it away like penny candy on Halloween.
    Not me.

Poor with my money and my heart.

    3. I need you here to love me up.
